Alternative treatments for depression

Everything you swallow provides raw material for the production of  hormones, peptides, neurotransmitters, etc in your body.  They have an effect on all processes in your body, not just those in your head - hence some of the side-effects!
It makes sense therefore to make the most of food, which contains the natural ingredients, such as proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and trace elements for the production of those substances above.
However, there are herbal/alternative treatments for depression - read on to learn about them all.

Should you just stop antidepressants?

Antidepressant  medication should not suddenly be stopped. Ensure you have all the information you need and the right kind of medical support to help you deal with any symptoms. Well informed, you are more likely to be successful coming off the medication, particularly if you have been taking antidepressants for a long time.

12 Reasons to avoid antidepressants and choose alternatives

You can become depressed for apparently 'no reason' at all, or through having experienced a traumatic event in your life; either way, you may feel scared and out of control. So why take alternative treatments for depression?  Here is why - antidepressants:

increase your feeling of being out of control
increase your dependence on outside sources of help
don't deal with the real problem
don't help you to meet your emotional needs
make it more likely that you have a relapse in the future
are only 3% more effective than a placebo
can cause sleep problems
can increase agitation
can cause sexual problems such as decreased libido
may cause difficult to manage withdrawal effects
can cause permanent damage, including movement disorders
may cause weight gain, constipation, diarrhoea

So often a former fellow sufferer has the best advice.  They have been where you are right now and know how to help you right out of that pit.  You may therefore want to have a look at the depression free method

The material on these pages is intended as information only, and not as medical advice. If you are suffering from a health problem and/or are taking any medication, you should discuss taking any remedies with your doctor of pharmacist first.

to name but a few and all very depressing! So, consider the alternatives.
